We are an established, non-comercial, 8 year old permaculture farm. We do maintain a small guesthouse for tourists. We have all kinds of tropical fruits. The farm is accessible only by a steep hike of about 1 mile or 4x4 sometimes. Our location is remote and beautiful. We overlook the Pacific Ocean and enjoy a nice breeze daily. We are surrounded by rain forest. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy our area: hiking, surfing, snorkeling, horseback rides, relaxing in a hammock and secluded beaches. We live a simple rustic lifestyle. We are off the grid and only our main house has solar, where we can charge batteries for flashlights etc. There is an Indigenous Guaymi family living on the farm with us.
We are looking for a mature, responsible, independent couple who want to live and learn the tropical lifestyle. We want help with the running of the guest house, cleaning, cooking, help with animal care (we have dogs, cats, a horse, chickens), farm maintenance and playing with the caretaker’s children. A massage therapist or yoga insturctor is helpful. Skills in carpentry, landscaping, and Spanish are also desired. Must love animals!! Flexible schedule and hours of help. We want people who would like to stay at least 1-2 months with a long term possibility for caretaking. Please email us with your interests, skills, dates and length of stay, the more info the better. It may take us more than2 weeks to respond but you will receive instant reply with necessary info.
Lodging and Meals: One simple cabina with a great ocean view, a queen bed, a small kitchen (no fridge), running spring water, indoor/outdoor shower and composting toilet. The house is part of our greenhouse and is surrounded by whatever we are growing! Our houses are open air to take advantage of the breeze. We don't have many biting insects. We will share all the food produced on the farm, there are a variety of fruits depending on the season. Lots of bananas, coconuts, green leaves and more. You need to be independent and prepare your own meals. We will share meals on occasion, varies daily, mainly vegetarian.

Our weather is characterized by warm days (80 to 90 degrees) and pleasant cool nights (57 to 67 degrees). December through April is the dry season. Our mission is to explore, implement and teach principles of sustainable living using natural growing methods, organic gardening, non-hybrid seeds, simple living, tree reforestation and gentle animal care. Volunteers help with starting seeds, preparing garden beds, planting seeds and plants in the gardens, watering and weeding the gardens, composting, worm hotels, harvesting vegetables, picking fruit, planting fruit and hardwood trees, milking cows, caring for horses, caring for chickens, fixing fences, harvesting roots and flowers growing on the farm, laying trails, building cabanas and improving water systems. We welcome all levels of experience from those wishing to learn about natural growing methods in the tropics to those with extensive knowledge of permaculture who desire to teach others. Our farm is also available for students or individuals wishing to do projects relative to sustainable living including renewable energy sources, automatic watering systems, introducing new food plants to Costa Rica, collecting and saving local seeds, mushroom culture, rare trees, fruit trees, hardwood tree forest management, starting trees from seed, worm culture, animal husbandry, mycelia culture, greenhouses, field crops, EM, shelter building and others. Projects will be approved based on their relevance to sustainable living and their residual value to the farm once they are completed. Once we approve a project, we will provide the materials the student needs to complete the project. We also have a program for people who wish to stay on our farm long term (2 years or more). By becoming a long term farm manager, individuals can earn interest in the farm toward a future living space.
We expect responsible conduct from all volunteers. Respect for others, good communication skills and an attitude of teamwork is very important. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas away from the living areas. Excessive consumption of alcohol is not tolerated. The ability to speak and/or learn Spanish is very helpful but not required. We prefer people who are self-motivated and who work equally well in a team or individually.

Currently we are accepting yoga teachers, massage therapists and people who are willing to be in charge of our Gardens and Animals. In order to volunteer with us it is necessary that you pre-arrange your visit with us, as we only have a limited amount of spaces available.
We offer visitors a truly unique traveling experience, we are a simple quiet peaceful retreat facility with basic comforts, we are not a spa. We are a destination for those who want to visit a location that offers pristine virgin rain forest and clean beaches with few people on it, except for the occasional local Costa Rican fishing and a few visitors. One advantage of the area is that it has little night life and shopping, rather it offers the opportunity to go for hikes in the rain forest, horse back trips, cultural visits with indigenous families where they can learn traditional indigenous crafts and see beautiful wildlife. You will find our facility to be simple, clean and comfortable.
The style of yoga we practice integrates many different forms of yoga asana. Guests look out over the rainforest and ocean and enjoy a soothing ocean breeze in our hardwood floor open air yoga studio. Our location is in a valley surrounded by primary rain forest with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean.
Our region of Costa Rica is considered to be one of the most biologically diverse in the world, and guests frequently will see and hear tropical wildlife. Our location is home to several species of monkeys, parrots, toucans, sloths, iguanas, and an abundance of other animals.
We are also dedicated to wildlife conservation research and rehabilitation. We currently sponsor a Spider Monkey research project in order to study this endangered primate with hopes to restore the population of this primate back to healthy numbers. We are also working to expand our conservation work to help restore other species and habitats.

Lodging: Shared rooms

Meals: 3 meals a day, room and board provided plus daily yoga classes. The diet will be abundant, healthy and mainly vegan meals. Animal products will be served as an option a few meals a week, however, a vegan option will always be offered. The objective of the diet will be to provide healthy food that will satisfy the needs of as many people as possible. Individuals who have special dietary requirements are free to supplement their diets and use our facilities to prepare their meals. We also harvest and eat daily from our organic gardens, We also raise chickens and eggs.

2 adjacent properties, about 35 ha, practicing forest gardening / permaculture. Huge collection of fruit-trees from all over the world will be a botanical garden one day. We are planning a simple living retreat on this 10.5 hectare (26 acre) property in the beautiful valley of Bajos de Toro, between Poas and Arenal Volcanoes. The land is on several different levels from mountain to valley. It has a river running through it that starts its life in the crater of Poas Volcano, running underground and culminating in a large waterfall at the rear of the property. The river is 100% potable with the taste of fresh lemon and minerals that have positive results for skin conditions and arthritis.

Work will include: building trails through the property including to the waterfall (only accessible through the farm), reforestation, planting trees, shrubs and flowers to attract birds and butterflies, preparing the ground for an organic vegetable garden, establishing platforms for yurts, building "dry" toilets, converting the old dairy building into a communal living area, cooking for the volunteers, and planting bamboo fences.

Work schedule - 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Volunteers' Visits: Minimum 2 months.

Lodging:

One restored Tico house with four bedrooms (each equipped with 2-3 beds), comunal living area, large kitchen, two toilets and one hot and cold water shower.

Meals:

Basic foodstuffs will be provided and volunteers will take it in turns to cook.

Our indigenous family owned farm is in Boruca (see www.borucacr.org), an indigenous village where the famous masks for the “Fiesta de los Diabolitos” (Festival of the little devils) are fabricated. Boruca is accessible with public bus via Buenos Aires. About one hour steep hike from the village is the finca with the original rancho (houses out of wood and palm tree leafs), in the middle of the beautiful mountains where you can hear the monkeys, observe many animals and visit an ancient cemetery of ancient warriors. In the village you can learn about the diverse Boruca culture and their art (fabrication of masks and textiles), visit the local museum, go the beautiful waterfalls and swim in the beautiful river.
Requirements: We are looking for responsible and independent people (older than 18) who want to learn about local agriculture and traditional plants of Boruca. Minimum stay is 2 weeks and you need to provide us with the proof of insurance. We prefer groups of at least 2 persons since you are staying by yourself in the rancho.
Tasks: Wwoofers help with starting seeds, harvesting vegetables, picking fruit, planting trees, forest management, collecting seeds, weeding, maintaining the rancho etc.
Lodging: stay in either tents or the traditional rancho (houses out of wood and palm tree leafs) on the finca - with beautiful view over the valley. Kitchen (without fridge) and bathroom are just recently constructed (brand new :-))
Meals: We share all the food produced on the farm (depending on the season), mainly vegetarian. You need to be independent and cook for yourself.
